Commemorative Postage Stamp on 175 Years of Times of India will be Released Today
The Times of India (TOI) is an English daily newspaper.
In 2008, the newspaper reported that with a circulation of over 3.14
million as the world’s largest selling English daily daily, ranking it as the third largest selling newspaper in any language in the world. According to the Indian Readership Survey (IRS) 2012, the Times of India is the most widely read English newspaper in India with a readership of 7.643 million. This ranks theTimes
of India as the top English daily in India by readership. It is owned
and published by Benett,Coleman and Co.Ltd. which is owned by the Sahu
Jain family. The Times of India was founded on 3 November 1838 as The
Bombay Timesand Journal of Commerce In Bombay during an intermediate period
between the Mughal and British Raj . Published every Saturday and
Wednesday, The Bombay Times and Journal of Commerce was launched as a
semi-weekly edition by Raobahadur Narayan Dinanath Velkar, a
Maharashtrian ReformistThe daily editions of the paper were
started from 1850 and in 1861, the Bombay Times was renamed as The
Times of India after amalgamation of three more newspapers. After
India’s independence the ownership of the paper passed on to the then

Mumbai:
Union Law Minister Kapil Sibal released commemorative postage stamps to
pay tribute to Sachin Tendulkar on Thursday at Wankhade Stadium, Mumbai
before the start of 2nd Cricket Test match between India and West
Indies.
On Thursday, as Indian and cricket fans got set to see Sachin Tendulkar walk out for his last Test match a postage stamp in honour of Sachin Tendulkar was released. India take on West Indies in Sachin Tendulkar's 200th and final Test at his home ground at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. MS Dhoni won the toss and to the disdain of fans opted to bowl first which meant the fans would have to wait to see the 40-year-old star bat. Milind
Deora, Sharad Pawar and Rajeev Shukla took to the ground to release the
stamp honouring Sachin Tendulkar ahead of the second Test between India
and West Indies. Tendulkar is is the only Indian living person after Mother Teresa to receive this honour, claims Deora.
